I spent most of my life thinking golf was a terribly boring game — hit the ball far and if it goes to the wrong direction, you have to find it and hit it again. I said to my husband who first taught me how to play golf that it’s a stupid game and I could find a million other ways to spend my leisure hours. So, how did I end up creating a Local Filipino Organization introducing and connecting ladies to the golf lifestyle?

Back in the Philippines, my husband Jim Cupit played twice a week not including Sundays where he spent most his time with our boys Ian and JD who were then five and three years of age at the time, getting golf lessons at Kagitingan Ft. Bonifacio Golf Course in Makati. In summer, Ian & JD played on the Philippine Junior Golf Tour and I had to be with them the whole competition. I got bored waiting so I decided to hit balls till my husband got the interest to hire a golf pro. As soon as I learned, I began my day at the driving range and started joining local fundraising golf organizations.

So, how did I go from golf player to golf entrepreneur? It is Jim Cupit my husband who introduced me to the game by creating experiences he knew I’d enjoy. He knew I am a visionary. He first hooked me up with his friends back in Manila, Philippines who are in the golf business. He also made sure I could master the swing which he loves most  when I tee off.

Next, it became a history of selling Golf Shares & Real Estate while playing golf. What a fabulous alternative to enjoying a spectator sport. I shopped for sporty new outfits, spent my days in the sun and used the course as my daily exercise and selling golf shares. I discovered that golf is a great way to focus my mind and share quality time. When we moved to San Diego from Manila in 2001, and worked as a Property Manager from a Real Estate Investment Trust Company, I sadly missed golf and did not play for 8 years. In 2007, I was approached by San Diego Local Golf Organization to sponsor their event in behalf of the company that I worked for. I ended up being a member and began my swing each day with Mimosa on the sunrise and Chardonnay on the sunset… I was hooked!  

I just had to share my new passion and found the opportunity. What I began as a golf fundraiser from various local associations has grown into a rewarding career introducing and connecting women to the golf lifestyle.  

So, what am I doing on Saturday Morning? You will find me at the golf course with my Ladies on Course Golf Club of San Diego, my inspiration to the golf community.

Nearly two years had passed, the pandemic became a part of us, my husband left me with a great legacy and wrote in his tomb, “till we meet again”. It’s been more than a year now since I came back to the game I love, and the important thing I realized is that if we do something with a lot of a heart, it will open beautiful doors for us, especially so if we act and think in the light of HOPE.
